Most commonly, these things are done over some time, and you might start to notice hair breakage or you might notice that your hair is not growing when in reality it could be due to some of these habits, so keep reading

Not washing your hair
The first habit that you might be doing which is damaging your hair is not washing your hair enough. Your scalp is going to secrete oil no matter what you do. One can’t attempt to change it but can adjust wash days based on the type of particular scalp. Some people have dryer scalps. Some people produce a lot of oil, so it really depends on their type of skin. Just make sure that you’re washing your scalp enough so that there’s nothing that could potentially block it and prevent hair growth.

Shampoo
The second habit that can be damaging to your hair is how you shampoo it. You want to focus the shampoo on the scalp and not on the length. So you don’t have to apply shampoo at the length of hair you want to focus on the scalp. When the shampoo is rinsed off through your hair, it’s going to gently cleanse the ends, but do not scrub at the end because this way you can end up causing yourself and your hair a lot more damage.

Not conditioning the ends of your hair
The third habit that can be damaging your hair is not conditioning the length of hair. You’re really not giving the hair back the moisture that it needs to prevent damage and breakage, so think about conditioning from your ears downward. You don’t necessarily need to condition the scalp because that can result in an oily scalp.
Also I don’t recommend using two-in-one shampoos and conditioners because, again, we want to focus the shampoo on the scalp and the conditioner on the length. You can also try using a hair mask in place of a conditioner about once a week; that’s just going to give your hair a little bit of extra nourishment.

Drying with towel
The fourth habit that might be damaging your hair is using a regular towel for drying hair after a shower. And rubbing them aggressively. Choose a hair towel or a cotton t-shirt. Regular towel will cause friction from rubbing, which will result in a lot of breakage and even static hair. It can cause frizz, so you really want to choose something super gentle.

Nutrition
The fifth habit that might be damaging your hair is not getting adequate nutrition from your food. You’re not getting the vitamins and minerals that are required by your body, leading to dry hair and making it brittle. There’s a lot of different things that you need for hair growth. Adding health standard vitamins having healthy fats in your diet—omega-3s is important, and of course protein lot of lean proteins. You can opt for white fish, chicken, beans, legumes.
A common misconception is that people think they need to take biotin supplements for their hair, but there really isn’t extensive research to show that biotin helps . People like to opt for supplements instead, but think of your supplements as something that you add to an already good diet. It is more important to get the nutrition from the food than taking supplements. So try to include protein at every meal, whether it’s protein chicken or eggs.

Heat styling
The sixth habit that might be damaging your hair is excessive heat styling. You’ll probably notice a lot of damage, a lot of breakage, and even fizziness. You might notice that your hair dries really fast because now they’ve become of high porosity. Avoid excessive heat styling like straightening your hair, curling, or even a blow drying on high heat, just try to minimize it, and use a proper heat protector that prevents hair from further damage.

Tight hairstyles
The seventh habit that might be damaging your hair is tight hairstyles. I know a slick-back bun is super popular; however, doing a tight hairstyle can be really damaging, specifically to the front of your hairline. You might want to switch your part here and there, but tight hairstyles consistently over a long period of time can lead to traction alopecia, which is the hair being lost because of excessive tugging or pulling on it. So a go-to hairstyle is always a loose braid for long hair and anything that is not going to pull in your head and cause a lot of tension.

Elastics
The eighth habit that might be damaging your hair is using elastics. Tight elastics damage hair when they get wrapped around it. It can get caught and pulled up and cause breakage to the ends of your hair. So choose satin scrunchies instead. Just be sure that you’re using something gentle.

Split ends
The ninth habit that might be damaging your hair is not cutting off split ends. I know many ladies are scared to chop off their length; however, if you leave a hair strand that is split and you don’t trim it off, it can eventually split all the way up the length of the hair shaft and cause more damage. It’s best to trim off the split ends for healthier hair. Overtime you’ll notice that your hair actually is getting longer, because there’s no more breakage, so trimming ends doesn’t actually affect the length .

Aggressive brushing
The tenth habit that might be damaging your hair is aggressively brushing your hair. So I know it seems rather simple, and hair brushing is probably something you do almost every day. But you want to think of brushing from the ends and work towards your head. Starting at the top can cause the hair to be pulled out of the head. Brushing can actually cause a good amount of mechanical breakage, especially for somebody with long hair. It’s something you want to be really careful and very mindful of.
Always section the hair, brush slowly, taking your time, and if you notice a bunch of tangles, use your hands to pull those tangles apart versus yanking the brush through. I know it might be time-consuming and it might be frustrating, but in the long run you’ll achieve beautiful, luscious hair.
