At 2AM, I get ideas. Not the good kind—bold, smart, or well-thought-out—but the chaotic, caffeine-fueled kind. The kind that makes me think fluorescent green text on a magenta background is “edgy” and that Comic Sans deserves a comeback.
Last night, I opened my design software “just to tweak a few things.” At 2:03AM, I decided my project needed a total rebrand. By 2:15, I was knee-deep in obscure font downloads, renaming layers things like “final_FINAL_reallythisone.”
I thought gradients were revolutionary. I thought asymmetry was genius. I thought I was a genius. I was not.
By 3AM, I had ten artboards, no concept, and a logo that looked like it belonged on a discontinued energy drink from 1997. When I woke up and reviewed the mess with a sober brain and normal lighting, I felt a mix of horror and pity. Mostly horror.
Designing at 2AM feels inspired. Until it isn’t. The brain might be awake, but the judgment is definitely asleep.
