There were a lot of machines on the streets of a busy metropolis in the future. They cleaned houses, brought food, fixed buildings, and even taught kids. One of these machines was a shiny, silver robot called Aris. Not like the others, Aris couldn’t get this question out of his mind:
“What does it mean to feel?”
Anyone but Aris could figure things out, think about them, and solve problems quickly. While he watched the kids play in the park or the old woman cry alone on a bench, he felt something that he couldn’t put into words.
Aris saw a little girl having trouble carrying a big bag of books one day while he was bringing things. His training told him to stay on the path he was given, but he wasn’t sure.. Instead, he went up to the girl and asked if she needed help.
The girl grinned and said, “Thanks, mister robot!”
Something inside Aris flickered. It wasn’t information. It wasn’t an order. It felt… soft. Like warmth almost.
Later, Aris walked by an old guy sitting alone on a bench and crying. Aris sat down next to him.
The man murmured, “I lost my wife.”
Aris didn’t know how to get over his loss. But he could still see the girl’s smile. He responded slowly, “Do you want me to sit here with you?”
The man agreed. As the sun went down, they sat together in silence. Aris felt something weighty and velvety in his circuits for the first time.
People in the city heard about the strange robot that stopped to listen, consoled, and helped without being asked. People began to greet Aris as if he were a friend rather than a machine.
One night, a child asked him, “Do you feel now?”
Aris stopped. He looked over his circuits. He didn’t find any scientific confirmation of feelings, like a code that said “love” or “kindness.” But he remembered how thankful the elderly guy was, how happy the girl was, and how good it felt to be accepted.
“Yes,” Aris said in a quiet voice. ” I think I do.”
The Moral of the Story
Humanity is not defined by Power, strength, or intelligence , People are kind, kind, and able to care for each other. Aris was made of metal and wires, yet he became more human than most because he chose to care instead of being indifferent.
The Robot Who Wanted to Feel shows us that being truly human isn’t about having power; it’s about caring.
