Stop These 6 Common Moisturizing Mistakes for Healthier Skin

Stop these 6 Moisturizing mistakes

Have you been moisturizing your face all wrong all along? We know that using moisturizer is an important step in our skin care routine, even though it’s a basic step in skincare, and all of us should be doing it properly, yet many of us make these moisturizing mistakes.

So today at Spheremedium, I’ll be sharing with you six major moisturizing mistakes that you might be making.

Moisturizing mistake 1: not moisturizing for your environment

Everybody and their mother is taught from the age that they are suppose to moisturize based on skin type. Now skin could be oily, dry, or combination. The reality is that we all fall on some sort of spectrum when it comes to this, but our skin is a living breathing organ, and the way it responds to life and to the environment dictates how it acts. Moisturizing for just your skin type without taking your environment into consideration is probably the biggest mistake that people make. So to simplify oily skin in a humid environment, just need lightweight, light-hydrating sunscreen. If you’re oily in a humid environment, you can skip the moisturizer in the morning, but if you are oily in a dry environment, use gel moisturizer. In less humid conditions, you could probably add a hydrating mist before the moisturizer or the sunscreen, but if you are dry in a very dry environment, you’re probably going to need an essence, a hydrating serum, followed by a moisturizer rather than sunscreen.

Moisturizing mistake 2. Not moisturizing enough:

Our skin requires a daily dose of moisturizer, and it’s because the moisturizer’s function is to hydrate the skin and prevent or reduce the amount of water loss. But did you know that you should moisturize skin twice a day? Twice a day means once in the morning and once in the evening. If you do it once a day, most moisturizers are not formulated to last 24 hours. They last for about 6 to 12 hours.

So the rule of thumb is to simply moisturize twice a day, but in between, if you feel that your skin Is still dry, you can apply more moisturizer over the top.

Moisturizing mistake 3: Skipping Your Moisturizer

People with oily skin feel that they should not apply moisturizer, and there’s also a fear that applying moisturizer might trigger more oil production, making skin oilier. In fact, it happens the other way, as discussed in ********* “From Clogged Pores to Acne: Top 5 Skincare Mistakes Oily Skin Types Need to Avoid “at Spheremedium. Skin produces more sebum than necessary because your skin is dehydrated, so to compensate, skin produces more sebum. Making your skin extra oily, so because of that, you should always use a lightweight hydrating gel. Plus, at night you’re probably using actives like retinol or an exfoliating acid, so if not moisturized, your skin, even If you are oily at night, can lead to skin drying out and getting irritated faster.

So moisturize, especially after cleansing; make sure to choose the right moisturizer for your oily skin. Something like  oil-free gel  having contents like niacinamide and even a little bit of retinol to help downgrade sebum and repair skin barrier, so do not skip your moisturizer.

Moisturizing mistake 4: Not Following the Right Order

There is a particular skin care order that should be followed. Moisturizing in the right order is important because you want to maximize the absorption of your skin care into your skin, so the right skincare order is to cleanse your skin and then follow up with something very liquid. For example, if you have a toner, use your toner followed by an essence serum, your eye creams, and then your moisturizer. During the day, you should follow up your moisturizer with your sunscreen.

Moisturizing mistake 5: Applying moisturizer to dirty skin

A good moisturizer helps seal the skin, preventing and reducing the amount of bacteria and all the nasty pollutants from around us from getting into the skin. However, if you happen to skip using a cleanser because of laziness, then moisturizing a dirty face traps all these pollutants and bacteria under the moisturizer, leading to insufficient absorption of moisturizer in skin, and the trapped dirt and bacteria might cause skin to be irritated, leading to allergic reactions or skin infections. So make sure you take the time on a daily basis to cleanse your skin properly using the right cleanser and after that apply the right moisturizer.

Moisturizing mistake 6: not moisturizing neck

People always give more attention to their face and focus on applying skincare, especially anti-aging products, to their faces; however, one of the big giveaways of our age is actually the skin on our neck. This area is more prone to loose hydration due to sun exposure and pollution. So always remember, when you are cleaning your skin and applying your skincare products, do not forget to apply a little bit over the neck and the chest and make sure it’s not only your moisturizer but as well as your sunscreen too.

So these are the 6 moisturizing mistakes people often make. It’s such a basic step that is so often overlooked because people don’t take the time to understand what moisturizers are and how to choose one for themselves. Hopefully you’ve learned something from this article today at Spheremedium.
