Evolving Gender Roles in Pakistan: A Modern Perspective

In Pakistan, gender roles have changed a lot in the last few decades, which is a sign of bigger changes in society. Some of the things that are causing these changes are the need to make money, better schooling, and a greater awareness of gender equality. This blog aims to bring attention to the positive changes in gender roles in Pakistan with the goal of recognizing the progress made toward making society more open and accepting.

Getting Past Problems in Education Empowerment:

One of the most important changes in Pakistan is that women are getting more attention when it comes to education. In the past, social, cultural, and financial problems have made it harder for girls to go to college. Still, things are a lot better now because both the government and non-governmental groups worked together. There are more kids who can go to school thanks to grants and funding for girls, such as the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Program.

In areas where men used to be in charge, girls are now doing well. Women are going to college at a rate that has never been seen before, and the number of women who can read and write has greatly increased. Women can now choose from many jobs, which is good for the country’s economy and social harmony. This is the result of giving people more power through schooling.

Women working and taking part in the economy big change in Gender Roles

A big reason why more and more Pakistani women are going to work is that they have more education. People can see this change in business, schooling, health care, and technology, among other places. Women can now find jobs more easily thanks to policies like maternity leave and rules against harassment at work that help women get jobs.

A lot of women are starting their own businesses to make money and show that they are smart people who can run a business. With the rise of e-commerce and websites, women now have more options for balancing their work goals with their established roles. These changes, which have also helped the economy, have made people think about and question standard gender roles.

People who get interested in politics: calls for change in Gender Roles

In Pakistan, things are getting better for women because more of them are running for office. There have been many powerful women in the government. Benazir Bhutto was the first woman to lead a country where most of the people were Muslims. Many women were moved to run for office and work for the public good because of how she lead.
Making sure women can vote is made possible by the seats they are given in the National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies. It’s been very helpful for women MPs to push for laws and policies that protect women’s rights and encourage equality between men and women. People are slowly changing how they think about gender roles because they are getting involved in politics.

Arts and Media helped with positive change in gender roles

Pakistan’s media and cultural businesses have also helped with the positive change in gender roles. There are more and more strong, independent women figures who don’t follow the rules in TV shows, movies, and books. These images have a big impact because they make people feel better about gender roles.
Women who work in the media, like directors, producers, and writers, bring up and create important issues in society. The next generation of women is inspired to think bigger and strive for jobs that go beyond what is expected of them because women are more visible.

Gender Roles as in sports to new heights:

Sports are a big way for people in Pakistan to question and change the roles of men and women. Tennis player Sana Mir, squash player Maria Toorpakai, and the national women’s football team are all well-known in their own country and around the world. Not only did their accomplishments make the country happy, but they also showed that women can do well in fields that were once thought to be male-only.
Girls can now play sports and learn in schools and sports programs that are more open to everyone. Sports stars who are women are inspiring teenage girls to follow their dreams, even when society says they shouldn’t.

It's called a culture shift when rules and ideas change.

One of the most important signs that gender roles are changing in Pakistan is probably how the society is changing. To make relationships more fair, more and more young people are questioning views they’ve had for a long time. As society has changed, social media has played a big role. It lets people talk about women’s rights and giving men and women similar rights.
#MeToo and #GirlsAtDhabas have led to deep conversations that have helped people understand and fight for gender roles better. These actions have shown how brave and determined Pakistani women are, as well as drawing attention to problems with discrimination.

Giving people power right where it starts (local projects )

There are many groups in each neighborhood that work to make sure that men and women have the same rights. The Aurat Foundation and the Rural Support Program Network are two groups that work hard to give women more power by helping them get an education, learn how to do jobs, and get loans. The things these events do give women the tools and resources they need to get ahead in life and become financially independent.

In rural areas, where gender standards are stronger, these programs have had a bigger impact. They made women become more respected and well-known in their towns by giving them money.
