Why does gen z look so much older then their age? Is gen z aging faster? gen z is aging like milk !
What’s with everyone saying gen z is looking older than millennials? Is this just the case of people picking on their younger generation ? Or is there really something making them age faster then any generation before?
Well let’s talk about it but first things first!
Who are millennials & who is gen z?
Typically a millennial is anyone born between the years of 1981 to 1996 and gen z are people born between 1997 and 2012 .
Now despite a generation apart gen z are noticing that they are aging much more rapidly and faster than their millennial counterparts! Let’s go over factors which I think are making gen z age quicker than millennials.
Increased exposure to screens
Gen z typically grew up with screen. Nowadays it’s impossible to see a young toddler or a baby that does not have a screen plastered in front of their face . Whether it’s an iPad a tablet a phone or a television, compared that to the millennials who had minimal screen time and most of the time they were not exposed to screen until a relatively older age
Ever wondered why prolonged screen time is bad for your skin?
It’s because screens emit blue light and what blue light does, it actually degrades your skin’s collagen much quicker, leading your skin to looking more dehydrated and older than what it actually is and when you’re below the age of 12 years old, your skin’s collagen is more prone to damage especially when it’s coming from blue light
Interest in Fashion and Beauty
Gen z are using much more skin care products compared to Millennials at a younger age. I remember as a Millennial I was only exposed to minimal skincare at the teenage due to acne issues, however for a gen z, I see majority of them starting on a multi-step skincare routine at a young teenage age!
On top of that there is now increased accessibility to skincare products. In the past, in order to buy a skincare product one needed to physically walk into the shop and then educate oneself on the skincare product and then purchase it .But nowadays, the skin care products are being sold everywhere, over the counter and even online. This easy access to skincare products means that gen z’s are now exposed to so many skincare products at a very young age, which might be terrible for a skin. It’s because when a wrong skincare product is used and skin reacts to it adversely then it actually damages skin barrier. In the long run, you’re going to spend more time fixing damage caused by the skin care products compared to when you’re not using much products in the first place! so it’s important to get yourself educated on which skincare products are good for your skin .
Influence of social media
Gen z started wearing makeup quit early and not only did they started wearing makeup early, they started injectable quit young too. It’s all because they had something that no other generation had before that age…internet! Where beauty influencers shaped their minds. They started pushing products to youngsters specifically teenagers, making youngsters feel they need to use products to look perfect in this imperfect world. They learned everything from them, from how to find their perfect foundation shade, to how to contour, this easy access to tutorials and product recommendations meant that gen z got early head start on every other generation.
Stress and mental health
The most important reason why Gen z are aging much quicker than the millennial counterparts is actually due to stress .Growing up as a gen z they’re exposed to a lot more information than what we were exposed to as millennials and because information is now at your fingertips and it’s available through not only websites, blogs but also through social media, mental health issues like anxiety and depression at a very young age are very common and this can actually affect your skin’s health. It can cause changes in your skin like inflammation,
Increased acne and rosacea, causing havoc on skin and adds up to one’s age.
Which among these factors do you agree with? Do share your feedback in comments. And irrespective of how they look, it’s important to acknowledge their qualities and appreciate their role in shaping our world!
